Conservatives' postwar year judged by Swiss critic
A London correspondent for the Neue Zurcher Zeitung surveys Churchill's tenure as peace-time prime minister, noting balance of payments pressures, unity with union leaders, and the tactic of widening Labour splits. Attlee is seen courting Labour factions while conservatives seek steadier economic policy amid cautious Labour support. The critic offers cautious reassurance that Britain would endure if world crisis arises.
