Mr and Mrs H Laneway of Beausejour and their sons Russell and Michael are spending a week in Winnipeg.
A fire of unknown origin razed Emil Dayon’s Riverland house and contents Saturday afternoon. The blaze left the home a total loss within an hour of outbreak. exact details were not available at press time. The note extends sympathy to the Dayon family from W.S.K.
Pointe du Bois ladies hosted a pretty shower in the Community hall on Tuesday evening November 18 for Mrs S Forster nee Myrtle Storseth. The Bride was escorted to a decorated chair to the Wedding March and received corsages and gifts from Myrtle’s friends.
Beausejour and area details include Ray Gretsinger in hospital after a head on crash seven miles west of Beausejour on November 15. Robert Schuman, driver of the westbound car, fell asleep at the wheel. six Beausejour youths in the eastbound vehicle suffered bruises and shock but survived. Ray Gret singer received concussion and faces two weeks in hospital. others treated in Beausejour and at St Boniface.
Johnny Bayly and Don Mac Donald won first prize as a comedy team at the Winter Club event in Pine Falls. Reg Bartley took second in a mimicry act, with Jim Cyr placing third in stepping dance. The full list of contestants includes pianoforte soloist George Ross, vocalists Diana Souka and Pam ela French, violinists Jeff Beaubien and Bert Wood, and many others. Roy Perry and Don McCulloch directed staging, and Bill Jackson hosted as master of ceremonies. audience turnout was large and enthusiastic.
Great Falls hosts a Monday bazaar to fund equipment for junior boys hockey. Despite low external attendance, $280 was raised. Highlights include a wool rug draw won by Mark Reid, a wool blanket sold for 16.50, and lively auctions by Bob Hlady.
A note of local events records a Whist Drive and Dance at the Community hall on November 20 to celebrate the Royal Wedding. Winners at whist included Mrs Browngil Mrs Malmer and Mr ApRitchard and Mr Spadini. Donations to the Winnipeg Princess Elizabeth Wedding Fund total $131. Mrs Norton arrived from Mansfield England two years ago and Mrs C Spirito of Winnipeg is visiting.
George Love, 70, died November 21 in Lac Du Bonnet. He lived 26 years in the town, worked for City Hydro until 1943, and retired to riverside home. A World War I veteran, he served three years as a driver in the Army Service Corps Transport Division. Survived by wife, son Reginald, and two grandchildren. Renshaw Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Large crowd gathered at Notre Dame Church Lac du Bonnet to say farewell to Mrs Natalie Henley who died in Winnipeg last Friday November 14 Father Paradis officiated Her loss follows the death of Mr Henley on June 15 The Henley family includes three daughters Eva Daisy Angeline and three sons Phillip Archie and Gydeon all residents of the Lac du Bonnet district
Andrew Dolennik 60 of Tyndall passed away at the St Boni face Sanatorium on Friday November 21. Funeral services were held Monday November 24 at 9:30 a.m. in the Greek Catholic church led by Father Kormylo. He emigrated from Ukraine at age 13 and farmed in Tyndall for 46 years, also working at Tyndall Quarries. Survived by children Tony Selkirk John Tyndall John Annie Kenora Sophie Winnipeg and widow Axsenka.
Mrs William Best aged 74 died Tuesday at the home of her daughter Mrs H Ghaffrott in Beausejour following a brief illness. Born in Poland she came to Canada 19 years ago and resided here throughout that period.
Funeral services for Mrs Best were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Beausejour Lutheran Church by Rev H Moertelmeyer. Buried in the family plot, with Russell's Funeral Home arranging. Survived by husband William two sons August Beausejour and Edward Kelowna B C one daughter Mrs Schaffrot and 13 grandchildren Pallbearers named Louis Gus August Froehlick Ed Kling bell L Tocholke and Gus Beger
Funeral services for Charles Watt aged 59 who died in Pine Falls hospital after a ten month illness were held at the United church with Rev. J E Hunter officiating. Burial followed in the local cemetery. Watt, born August 7 1888 in Bathgate Scotland lived in Winnipeg before moving to Pine Falls in 1927. He was a Mason and member of the Norwood Legion branches and survived by his widow and daughter Margary of Winnipeg, a brother in McKenzie Island and a sister in Winnipeg.
The Women’s Curling Club met in Beausejour on November 20 with strong attendance. New officers include Mrs J I Ridley as president and Mrs N Rumak as vice president. Jean Bush is secretary treasurer. A draw committee was formed to schedule rinks.
Beausejour Curling Club met November 13 for its annual meeting and officer election. Paul Rumak was chosen president as fees rise to eight dollars for active curlers and two dollars for associate members. Existing officers include Lo Stebbe vice president and B Larson secretary.
The War Memorial fund increases by 352 dollars after a Beausejour Women's Institute carnival at Town Hall on Friday November 21. The event featured bingo crown and anchor ring toss, with institute members providing refreshments and local merchants donating prizes.
Tyndall W Lewis 88 suffered a mild stroke at home and was taken to Dr Gibbs in Selkirk. A Whist Drive on Nov 27 at Legion rooms supports Food for Britain, Ladies Auxiliary sponsor. Aleta Vivian Cowie wed Edward Ebeling of Lacombe Alberta in the United church manse Pine Falls with Rev J E Hunter officiating. The couple, escorted by her father, plan to reside in Lacombe Alberta after a reception at the bride’s home.
Plans for the Beausejour School Concert aim to showcase top local talent at the Town Hall on Friday November 28 at 8 15 p m. Officials in charge say the event promises one of the district finest displays.
