Homecoming Dance Honors Lac du Bonnet Girls
A welcome home dance will honor Donna Peterson and Marylynn Paterson for representing Lac du Bonnet at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. The two Manitoba champions led the Foods clubs in elimination contests and placed fifth in the national finals. A crowded celebration at the community hall follows their return with community leaders and officials praising their achievement and thanking supporters. Fred Duffly and his orchestra will provide music as the event becomes a whole community effort.

L J Pulfer secretary treasurer of Brokenhead RM was unanimously elected president of the Beausejour Chamber of Commerce at the November 15 meeting. He urged full member cooperation for a active year and outlined goals for Beausejour and surrounding districts. Corporal W. Nicholas of the R C M P was guest speaker at the Lac du Bonnet Home and School association meeting on November 14. He described the Youth and Police movement to curb delinquency and outlined plans for citizenship talks in schools. The group announced 50 plastic bowls for hot lunches and starting November 20 meals for out of town students at five cents. The Christmas concert is set for December 20. The report urged cancer awareness and early doctor or clinic consultation for symptoms, noting many cancers are curable when caught early.

A C C Delegates Plan Highway Link-Ups Meeting

Fort Alexander Mission and Residential School History
The Fort Alexander mission began with Rev. Father Joachim Allard and later built a church in 1880 and a day school. A residential school was added in 1905 with additions in 1912 and 1922. The Oblate Fathers and Sisters of the Oblate Order run it with the Department of Indian Affairs, following Manitoba’s curriculum and offering manual training for boys and domestic science for girls. About 145 students aged 7 to 16 attend across two institutions, with many from nearby reserves. thousands more nonattending. The aim is to provide education and encourage continued study after discharge.
