A three man team led by Professor Norman Emerson of the University of Toronto began an investigation in the Grand Rapids area on October 25. They found the winter and next year’s power site construction will not affect archeological value. They noted a nearby tramway and rail remnants preserved by the hydroelectric board. Evidence from the early 1700s was found at a site on the north bank of the river. A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service study on flood impacts is also underway with government recommendations forthcoming.
