Whitemouth Guild Raises 807.10 For Hospital Aid

About 500 people attended the Whitemouth Hospital Guild bazaar and supper on October 22, yielding a net profit of 807.10. Proceeds from draws brought in 657.10, with the fifth group project netting 150 under convener Mrs. T. Law. Donors included Mrs. A. H. Cousins and others. prizes extended to Dryden Ontario and Rennie Manitoba, among places.

Beausejour Curlers Elect New Officers

The Beausejour Curling club held its annual meeting on October 27 at the curling rink. Officers elected include President Cpl. D. A. Betts honourary president C. E. Turner vice-president J. O. Beckstead secretary Bert Larson H Matheson Fred Rumak and Mike Stepaniuk as executive members. The group invited interested curlers for the 1949 50 season to contact the executive before November 15.

Bride of Michael Sliva Weds in Beausejour Ceremony

The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Sliva of Tyndall, wore a white brocade satin gown with a basque bodice and lace touches. She carried Johanna roses, while bridesmaids in yellow and lime moire gowns held pink roses. The groom’s attendants included Michael Kulbaba and Wally Sliva. A reception followed at St Marys hall Beausejour.

Rita Aileen Schuman and Gordon William Ives united in marriage at Westminster United Church in Winnipeg on October 15 at 5 p.m. The service featured soloists Joyce Webster and the signing of the register. Preliminary Cat Lake-Winnipeg River geology survey issued

The Mines Branch of Manitoba reports field work from 1947-48 covering about 370 miles from Cat Creek to the Winnipeg River and from the Manitoba Ontario boundary to Shatford and Maskwa lakes. The map accompanies the report and notes granitic bodies and occurrences of chromite copper nickel tin lithium and beryllium. Copies of the report by G. D. Springer are available from the Director of Mines Branch in Winnipeg.

1911 Dollar Turned Up At Beausejour

Fred Rumak manager of the Howland hotel Beausejour reports a curious find by Mr and Mrs E Schwartz visitors from Norfolk NY a one dollar bill issued January 3 1911 bearing the likeness of Earl and Lady Grey It is about half again the size of a modern dollar and is hand signed Visitors may view the currency at the hotel.

River Hills Hospital Guild Bazaar Plans Discussed

The River Hills Hospital Guild held its October meeting with Mrs. A Beskau presiding. Minutes were read by the president as secretary-treasurer was absent. A bazaar is planned for November 5 at 7 p.m. in Winnipeg Falls South. A new secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Lynda Rohrig, was elected to finish the term after Mrs. R Boaz resigned.

Whitemouth Fire Destroys Home Injures One

J Baletke of Whitemouth was burned when a fire destroyed his home at 7 am on Sunday October 23. He, his wife and their four children fled the blaze as Mrs Baletke and the children jumped from a window with the family dog. Baletke was taken to St Boniface hospital in serious condition by Leslie Wardrop.

Inaugural Meeting of Manitoba Urban Association Held

The Manitoba Urban Association formed on Friday October 28 bringing together urban reeves mayors and councillors. Mayor W L Bullmore Dauphin led sessions while Mayor Garnet Coulter hosted at Fort Garry hotel. Dues set at 50 for cities 25 for towns 10 for villages with a mixed executive and province wide representation.

Hallowe en Party A Big Success At Beausejour

A Beausejour Halloween party at the skating rink, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce the Merchants and Cpl Betts, drew over 150 costumed children. Mayor Pulfer opened the event, Brad the clown entertained, and gifts of bags candy apples and peanuts were handed out.
