Manitoba spring convocation grants degrees to graduates

Area residents from Whitemouth Pine Falls and Great Falls received bachelor of arts and education credentials. University conferred 2822 degrees and certificates across four sessions May 21 and 22, with over 300 at postgraduate levels. Notable honorees include Robert Alexander MacLeod and John Stephen Michael Melnick.

Annual Dinner of Winnipeg River Wildlife Association

The Winnipeg River Wildlife Association held its annual dinner at 6 30 p m in Pine May 20 at Manitou Falls Manitoba. President Bill MacLeod welcomed attendees and presented awards including the Sunde Trophy for the best 1969 Walleye to Laird Crawford and other trophies for deer moose geese and fish. Guest speaker Dr Ken Loan of the Manitoba Department of Mines and Natural Resources spoke on wildlife research and planning, followed by a Q A session. Plans for another event were discussed for September.

Walk-a-Thon Nets Big Money for Local School

The event opened at 8 40 a m and featured a twenty mile route won by John Goulet who finished at 12 05 p m. Brenda Augu completed the course raising 137 dollars while Bert Wood the local postmaster raised 120 dollars by completing the walk.

Lions Auction Proves Successful Despite Press Confusion

The Lac du Bonet Lions reported strong results from a local auction where all articles sold before press time. The arena and total proceeds remain to be published. organizers credited the auctioneer for contributing to the success.

Local Elementary Track Winners Advance From LAC DU BONNET Meet

Winners in girls divisions at the local elementary track meet advance to Pinawa. Read lists of first second and third place finishers across events including 100 dash ball throw hop step jump broad jump and high jump with numerous named participants such as Brenda Bruchanski Lorraine Sellers Lois Tetrault Paulette Ryplaneski and Cindy Nespor among others. The report includes many participant names and event placements with notes of continued coverage next week.

Vandals Damage Window At Ernie's Bakery

Vandals shattered the front window of Ernie's Bakery between two and four, damaging the storefront and prompting a police response. No injuries reported, investigation underway.

Centennial pageant and science fair at John G. Glassco School

Students in the junior room dressed in Indian costume presented a Manitoba birthday theme with Cree groups. The Prairie Crees danced and sang, followed by Woodland Crees who explained bush life in Northern Manitoba. A final group portrayed Sioux Indians with demonstrations of their crafts and winter provisions.
