Radioactive rocks and vast time scales described in plain terms
The article explains how scientists measure cosmic distances in light years and parsecs, and how geologists quantify deep time in billions of years. It notes human minds struggle with such vast durations, comparing earth history to a tiny dust layer on the Peace Tower in Ottawa to illustrate the immensity of geologic time and the fossil record embedded in rocks.

Radioactivity Maps Rock Ages for Canada Geological Survey
Canada’s Geological Survey uses dating methods to estimate rock ages from potassium argon rubidium strontium ratios. Absolute dating places rocks up to 2.8 billion years old, halving the date of the last Canadian ice age to 12,000 years, aiding mineral prospecting and regional geology understanding.

Seat belts mandate eyed in British Columbia
BC legislature considers a rule requiring drivers to wear seat belts in all 1964 cars after October 1, with auto dealers responsible for belt installation. The move aims to make belts obligatory in new cars, though enforcement on existing vehicles remains unclear. The report also touches on radioactivity research in geology, noting Geiger counter advances and their use in locating mineral deposits and tracing element movement in soils and rocks.
