Urban rural power split in Manitoba redistribution vote
The Manitoba Legislature rejected an independent commission plan to redraw electoral divisions on party lines. Urban representatives mostly backed the status quo, while rural members supported reform, highlighting concerns over representation by population and the balance of seats between Winnipeg and rural areas. The observer notes the vote underscored urban rural tensions and urges renewed, fair consideration in a future session.
