Dominion briquette plant ships first barbecue briquets
A Bienfait Saskatchewan firm shipped 8 000 ten pound bags of new barbecue briquets to a United States distributor on March 25 marking the first commercial run. Dominion Briquette and Chemicals Ltd officials say the lignite coal process produces smokeless briquets with a woody odor. The plant uses carbonizing and a starch binder with a 260 degree drying process to reduce moisture to 3-4 percent and yields bags of 10 20 or 40 pounds ready for rail or road transport.
