Joza Karas, noted violinist and Praha Conservatory graduate, will perform as guest artist at the Legion Hall on Tuesday, March 30. He has a long career across Czechoslovakia, Munich, Colombia, and Canada, with strong reviews for technique and musical interpretation. Also appearing are Mrs. Karas, Miss Betty Johnson, Mr. Ross Halpin, and the St. Theresa Choir.

The Brokenhead Agricultural Society hosted its third Seed Fair and Bacon Show at Beausejour Town Hall with a packed audience. J M Omichinski of Ladywood won Grand Champion in hog carcass, with reserve prizes going to J Kazina of Ladywood and Matt Lanoway of St Owens. Prize winners across numerous grain and forage classes were listed, and Field Representative of the Dominion Live stock Branch urged higher home quality to satisfy both Canadian and American markets. Harold Scotsmuir, field representative, noted the royal fair prospects for entrants’ samples and Art Tooth commented on potential Royal Winter Fair entries.

A winter road project aims to link Lac du Bonnet to Werner Lake over 25 miles with total Bird River to Werner Lake distance near 30 to 35 miles, largely through Manitoba. Edwards Diamond Drilling seeks to move heavy gear this summer, clearing snow and deadfalls to reach Werner Lake for Falconbridge and Quebec Nickel prospects, enhancing an all weather route to Ontario lakes.

Variety Show Staged At Seven Sisters Auditorium
A Friday March 12 variety show at Seven Sisters featured White Mouth and Seven Sisters performances. Directed by Mrs Olga Oxholm for the Seven Sisters and sponsored by the local Women’s Auxiliary, with C.G.L.T. girls led by Miss Helen Johnson for Whitemouth. The program included dancing, a Hans Christian Andersen pantomime Danish Birthday Party, Sleeping Beauty and The Dance of the Gypsies, plus a Weary Wanderers number and a wedding reception scene. Proceeds totaled 89 dollars for the Women’s Auxiliary.

MFU Leaders Call for Grass Roots Political Involvement at Beausejour
Provincial President Jacob Schutz urged MFU members to engage in politics and monitor activities of federal and provincial lawmakers. Registrations reached 133 with about half ladies from Northeastern locals as four panels discussed overhauling the Canada Grain Act and building a bottom up farm organization. Powerview Council Sets Court of Revision and 1954 Solicitor
The Powerview council met Tuesday March 9 with Mayor H J Parent presiding and all councillors present. Clerk J F Turcotte attended as the meeting was told the Provincial Municipal Assessor fixed April 13 for a Court of Revision on the village business assessment. A S Morrison QC of Winnipeg was re appointed village solicitor for 1954 at a $300 yearly fee. A motion was approved concerning land parcels on lot 58 and the south half of lot 61 plan.

The province outlines a large North-East highway program with 46 miles to finish grade and gravel and 46 miles prepared for oiling as the first paving stage. It lists No. 59 from Bird's Hill to Kirkness, by-pass work through St. Boniface, No. 22 to Victoria Beach, No. 1 from Lac du Bonnet to Trans-Canada near Hadashville, and No. 11 toward Whiteshell, plus No. 13 links and South-East routes to improve main entrances and freight routes. The plan includes a North-East expansion approved by Minister Wm. Morton and targets completion within the year pending weather.
