A get acquainted tea was hosted at the home of Mrs. Alex Hill in Whitemouth on Wednesday to welcome Mrs. J Schmidt who has moved to town. Mr Schmidt was named manager of the Whitemouth Royal Bank branch. First Annual Meet Held by Elma Guild

The first annual meeting of the Elma Ladies' Hospital Guild was held at the home of Mrs. M. J. Proceviat on Monday June 12. Officers elected included President Mrs. C. H. Lean Vice president Mrs. C. Mighty Mite Kozak to wrestle at Beausejour Dominion Day

Steve Kozak the worlds junior heavyweight wrestling champion is reinstated by the Manitoba Athletic Commission to wrestle at Beausejour on Dominion Day. His opponent will be an Indian wrestler from Washington State. Plans for top entertainment on Dominion Day are complete as committees arrange seating for 10 000 spectators.

Eight Students Grad From Pine Falls Collegiate

A graduation banquet at Pine Falls collegiate was held in the Chateau on Thursday evening June 8. Grade XI and Grade XII graduates received diplomas. E. J. Kahle chaired as official trustee. Toasts honored the school and graduates by Leif Sunde and John Bayly, with responses from Miss E. V. Hoffman and Miss Nesta McLeod. Musical selections by Bruce Halpin Anita Horvath Janice Thibodeau with Beryl Wilson accompaniment. Dennis Wardrop delivered the valedictory.

Pine Falls events mark graduation and fire relief efforts

Alma Dupont hosted a June fourth birthday party with a card sale to aid flood relief. A June seventh fire destroyed Lucien Dupont's house, with Pine Falls brigade saving nearby homes. Proceeds from the party were donated to the affected family while local graduations featured prizes, medals, and diplomas for students including Anita Horvath Fred Ford Jim Jackson and Dennis Wardrop.

Mrs Lagsdin Celebrates 99th Birthday in Lettonia

Mrs John Lagsdin the town's grand old lady of Lettonia marked her 99th birthday on June 19. Born in Latvia in 1851 she came to the United States and Canada about 45 years ago. She has two sons two daughters and several grandchildren and great grandchildren and two sisters living in the United States. Despite limited mobility she remains in fairly good health.

Beausejour Tournament Draws 850 Fans In Manitoba Baseball

More than 850 fans attended the Beausejour ball tournament on Sunday June 18 with Steinbach beating Beausejour 1-0 in two extra innings. Stonewall defeated Greenock Riverside knocked out East Selkirk and Stonewall edged Steinbach in the semifinal before a rain called the final between Riverside and Stonewall after two innings. Prize money totaling 150 dollars was split between the finalists.

Mrs A D Williams presides over the Whitemouth Hospital Aid meeting in Municipal hall attended by sixty seven members. The group funded laundry equipment bassinets for the nursery parts of instruments for the case room a stainless sink blinds and ward furniture and planned a pantry shower to boost supplies. Jackson family avoids injury when a bulldozer hits their car on a highway near St George. The new post office opens on Monday July 10 at 3 pm with MP J. Sinnott in attendance. Whitemouth Hospital Guild Elects New Officers

Mrs D M Wardrop was elected president at the first annual meeting on June 12. Reports showed first year work exceeded expectations with over 2000 dollars raised. Membership stood at 65. Other officers include Mrs R Yeo as vice-president Mrs R Geisbrecht as secretary treasurer Mrs A Schatkowsky convener of ways and means committee and Mrs Ed Maykoske convener of publicity committee.

Search Continues For Oliver Jokinen In Manitoba Hunt

Oliver Jokinen, last heard from when leaving Elma April 6 for his partner's trapping camp near Hadashville Manitoba, remains missing. His father E Jokinen of Vermillion Bay Ontario led the renewed search aided by Oli and Gilmer North Oli Laaja W J North and Herman Helstein of Elma, with RCMP assistance after water levels lowered to resume the effort.

Community club plans July 1 events with parade and dance

The Community club organizes a big day for July 1 at Whitemouth featuring a parade amusements races baseball and a dance in the evening. Mrs Henry Milprandt of Rennie hotel was omitted from Rennie flood relief donations which total nearly 500 to date.

Kentville area apple grower to raise 116000 pullets

Canada’s largest poultry venture plans four four deck laying houses 40 by 240 feet to hold 10,000 birds each. Feed will be mechanically delivered to pens. Most layers hatched in December and January will be kept indoors. Last year the operator handled 30000 layers in renovated warehouses and barns.

Tests at the Experimental Station Kapuskasing Ont show farmer use of 2 4 D on potatoes in early growth stages at concentrations of half to three quarters of a pound per acre reduced yields. Weeds were controlled.
