Abstract note lists district circulation figures for Debs with locations Peid Lac Du Bonnet Pine Falls and MBA points. Totals show 1138 paid and 140 outside 128 inside with 175 and 1414 figures accompanying the file.
Dave Hutchison lost his car in an early Sunday fire at Pine Falls after returning from a party. John Cuperus raised the alarm, volunteers fought the blaze, and the gasoline tank did not explode as feared. The car was a total loss except for tires and part of the frame.
Delegates from Beausejour St James St Boniface and Transcona boards of trade visited Selkirk Rolling Mills last week for a tour and inspection. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event and Selkirk Board of Trade hosted. The day ended with a banquet and round table on membership and Communism at the Merchant's Hotel with Barkentin Bellan and A W Hanks among participants.
Gustave Neiser 65 of Golden Bay died June 2. Funeral services were held June 5 at Russell's Funeral Chapel at 2 pm conducted by Rev. H Moertelmeyer. Burial in Golden Bay cemetery. Born in Russia he was a farmer in Golden Bay for 28 years. Survived by Lena his widow five sons and one daughter.
Fifteen girls gathered in Whitemouth United church to form a Canadian Girls In Training unit. Officers elected include Grace McLeod as president Lenora Carlson as vice president Violet Giesbrecht as secretary and Clara Sinclair as treasurer.
Miss Lylie Smith a radio operator and purser on the SS Roseville ships between San Francisco Vancouver the Philippines Shanghai Hong Kong Singapore and other ports. She recently visited Manitoba family in Winnipeg and Milner after flying from Vancouver.
Cecil E. Leech, RCAF veteran and publisher of the Brandon Optimist and Wawanesa Optimist, will become Manitoba's King's Printer. The Civil Service Commissioner C Rice Jones announces the appointment to fill the post left vacant by J L Cowie's death on December 16. Leech, born in Brandon, organized the Leech Publishing Co at 21 and has since edited and published local papers. He is married with two children.
The May Queen Dance sponsored by the Junior Red Cross Gleaming Light Branch at Lettonia Hall raised fifty dollars despite inclement weather and muddy roads. May Wold of Lac du Bonnet was chosen May Queen with a suitable gift accompanying the honor.
Word arrives that Pilot Officer L. C. Levas seur of Lac du Bonnet is honored with the Operational Wings of the Royal Canadian Air Force posthumously. The citation commends gallant service in action against the enemy.
Elma Hall hosted a banquet Saturday evening May 31 for Mr. and Mrs. A Zavaduk on their 25th wedding anniversary. A gift was presented to the honored couple. Mrs. A Mymryk led the supper table with assistants Mrs. A Evanochko and Mrs. C E Wendeborn. An orchestra from Transcona played for a dance afterward.
Oakbank defeated Lac du Bonnet 15 to 8 in the East Manitoba Baseball League opener. Errors and wild throws hampered the game as Oakbank began its season amid early misplays and missteps.
The final entry date for the $25,000 National Barley Contest is moved from June 15 to July 15 due to a late seeding season. Entries should be mailed to provincial committee chairmen in Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta or to Alberta Field Crops commissioner in Edmonton.

On Saturday evening May 24 at Mrs. Mae Sharpe’s Pine Falls home the Winter Baseball club held its season wind-up party combined with a birthday celebration for Mrs. Sharpe. Alma Roy and R. Farmer played piano for dancing and sing-songs. William Roy presented a birthday gift from the group, and Miss Donalda Stewart, a June 21 bride-elect, received a gift from attendees. A luncheon followed.
A Pine Falls police report from May 30, 1947, recounts Alma Roy disappearing after a bicycle ride with Mrs. Farmer. The matron left Indian Hospital that afternoon, rode to Mrs. Eva Row’s home, then down Tin Can Alley and vanished at about 7:15 p.m. A search party is being organized with all locals helping.
The padre, noted for an intensive study of Civil War tactics, was asked to prepare lessons after his lecture on tactics. He has since lectured officers at 25 Central Ordance Depot Longue Pointe Quebec Command Headquarters and other Montreal area units.
Beausejour defeated Pine Falls 6-0 in the East Manitoba Amateur Baseball opener on June 1. A large crowd watched as Beausejour led 1 1 1 0 6 1 4 with 4 Beausejour errors and 4 Pine Falls errors. An injury occurred in the first inning but both Sharpe and Kaatz remained in the game.
