Nine entrants vie for Miss Springfield 1954 crown representing Manitoba Farmers Union lodges in Zone 10 spanning the Springfield Federal Riding. An entertainment lineup for the Dominion Bay Celebration at Beausejour includes local Norma Mathews group from the recent ACT Talent night.

4 H Club Work Shown at St Quens Achievement Day

St Ouens district held Achievement Day for 4 H clubs with St Ouens Little Stitchers winning top honors. Evelyn Laneway was Gold Seal winner with blue ribbons for Marylyn Lyseie Chuk Elaine Kelbert Louise Zeilke Annie Zeilke and Geraldine Kelbert and red ribbons for Pietch Ruth Pietch Evelyn Laneway. Demonstration leaders Laneway and Peitch will take the display to Selkirk in June for the big 4 H Club rally. Judges were Miss M Matheson and Miss J Norris of the Home Economic Department, Provincial Government.

Brokenhead RM Votes To Build In Municipality

The Reeve and Council of the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead officially favor erecting new municipal offices within the municipality rather than rebuilding on the Beausejour site. A unanimous vote followed debates on centralizing property, with a referendum notion discussed but ultimately set aside amid wide ward support. Construction is expected once a suitable site is chosen, as residents anticipate a centralized complex including storage and staff facilities. Great Falls 4 H Clothing Club Displays Year's Work

Eleven club members showcased their year’s work at the Great Falls 4 H Clothing Club achievement day on Friday evening May 23. Judges Laycock and Norris from Extension Service awarded eight red ribbons and three blue ribbons. Corrie Jacques modeling her dress led rally fashion show at Sel kirk. Annie Arneson to attend camp. Valerie Jacques and Dorothy Warren selected to send to the Provincial Exhibition at Brandon. Prizes were given to the girls. leader Mrs Warren received a gift from them. The club radio won by Mrs Haldorson of McArthur Falls. Miss Laycock spoke as guest, an entertaining program followed, tea served by members and mothers.

Miss Steffie Weslak of Winnipeg visited her parents. John Sitar of South Junction Man. stayed with relatives. The Dubecky family from Winnipeg vacationed with the Radewichs in Medika. Edward Sitar left for Red Rock to work summers with the highway department. Tony Novicki of Winnipeg and Olga Zeveniuk of Sioux Lookout vacationed with the Novicki homefolk. A Cancer Education Film event by Manitoba Cancer Institute will be shown at Elma Hall Friday evening June 11 at 8 p.m. John S Iwanoczko, recently retired from Canadian National Railways, was honored with a surprise party at his Elma home on May 22. Brokenhead MFU Local Holds Regular Meeting May 26

The Brokenhead MFU local met May 26 for a regular session with newly elected board. Vice-president D Mosquin opened, minutes read by S Paseshnik, and district director A Laneway gave an address. Ladies elected to Farm Women’s Week at Manitoba U include W Mosquin and others. eleven delegates chosen for Beausejour district convention June 28. Lunch ended the evening.

Soluk earns best display at Thalberg Achievement Day

Janice Soluk, member of Thalberg North 4 H Busy Stitchers, won a one week camp vacation for best display at the Achievement Day held May 20. Two articles were chosen for Brandon Fair. she also earned red ribbons along with several peers. Home Economists Miss Mattison Norris Laycock attended, as parents viewed articles and a post event fashion show preceded lunch.

Mrs. Mary Kowalyk, recently discharged from Whitemouth hospital after an operation, has returned home. Charles H. Lean, severely burned in a stove explosion near Kenora, is hospitalized in Kenora General Hospital and listed as much improved. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Chanway spent the weekend with his parents.

Miss Janice Thibadeau, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Thibadeau, takes a holiday from nurse training for three weeks at home. Building Underway for Beausejour Wheat Pool Elevator

Beausejour Co-operative Elevator Association plans an immediate start on a new Wheat Pool Elevator and annex after choosing the site east of the Consolidated elevators, south of the CPR tracks opposite the CPR station. The facility will handle about 50 000 bushels per harvest season.

Campaign to aid Peter Baker in Buchan district

Conveners report the Peter Baker benefit in the Buchan district east of Beausejour met their goal through local support and city donations. Baker lost a leg last fall and needed funds for an artificial limb and medical bills. Neighbors organized dances raffles and other fundraisers raising 283.57 with various donations.

A large crowd attended the Brokenhead School auditorium on May 20 for the Brokenhead Belles 4 H Clothing Club Achievement Day. President Margery Mariash chaired. demonstrations on Sewing Equipment and how to make a cotton dress were led by Connie Kindefora, Rita Kowalchuk, Marcela Freund, and Annette Roshko.
