Residents recall a rainy parade with balloons and creative floats. Cindy Wazny and Corinne Stewart won bike prizes, Augustine’s float placed second, Hank and Gerda Bonekamp’s windmill third. Scouts braved rain from Whitemouth, canoeing, and a large crowd cheered despite the weather.
Marv Cooper of Pinawa won the Free Press match during Manitoba Pro Times weekend at St Charles Rifle Ranges north of Assiniboia Downs. He captured three of nine events including the Marksman Sharpshooter and Free Press awards with 49 of 50 and the City of Winnipeg match with a perfect 50 of 50, amid multi club and military entrants.
A Manitoba family notes Ricky Augustine, son of R C M P Constable French, will receive the Bronze Cross in Ottawa this October. The award comes after a National Scout Headquarters letter and a deputy chief scout acknowledgement. A three year old girl, Katherine French, is mentioned in connection with the family.
Pine Falls hosts a weekend in August with events starting July 31 as the Queen Pageant attended by Miss Manitoba Centennial to crown the queen. A parade at 10:00 a.m. on August 1 precedes a float prize of 50 dollars judged by Jack Farrell and continues with rides and concessions at noon followed by firemen hose laying contests and a shooting event. Senior Citizens Pioneer Jon Ban Schreyer is invited to attend.
