Canada Remains Net Importer of Energy
Canada remains a net importer of about a quarter of its energy needs despite growing self sufficiency. Fossil fuels are concentrated far from industry, keeping import reliance. From 1900 to 1960 energy use rose sevenfold with oil and gas overtaking coal, and pipelines expanding natural gas intake. Nuclear potential exists but unlikely to match traditional sources soon. The 1950–1960 period cut energy deficit by about 150 million, though deficits remained over 300 million.
