Farm News Finds Summerfallow Better In Low Yield Areas
An Alberta survey of 2758 prairie farmers shows wheat yields on stubble and summerfallow differ by area. In low yield regions summerfallow outperforms stubble by about 104 percent, while in average areas gains average 74 percent and in high yield zones about 57 percent. The study advises sowing on summerfallow annually only where yields are low, else use summerfallow mainly for weed control.
