Govt Won't Help Green Mine. Province Won't Subsidize San Antonio Mine
The provincial government will not subsidize continued operation of the San Antonio Gold Mine. Mines and Natural Resources Minister Sidney Green said essential town services will be provided, despite 150 residents and the mine’s shutdown last summer. The mine laid off 10 of 16 workers and closed company services. the province offered $30,000 to $40,000 to cover alternate services, but the mine declined and faces financial difficulty. Green criticized the mine for leaving the government to fund the area. He said the province will now focus on residents harmed by the mine’s discontinuation of services.
