The Village of Powerview outlines 1970 projects begun in 1967 including a park development aided by a provincial per capita grant. Topsoil, grading, and seeding prepared land for trees while a gene gpg equipped with nose and wing panels was rented to the Highways branch when not in village use. Street maintenance improved with graders, one street raised with fill, ditch digging and culverts replaced, all streets gravelled, and more street lights approved.

The Syd Butler foursome from Dugald won five games over the weekend to be the only undefeated team in the Zone 2 Consol Playdowns. Butler reached the finals on one side and the semis on the other. Remaining playoff contenders include Pinawa Pine Falls and Lac du Bonnet with Butler facing Remington from Pinawa in the finals and Henry Skolney in the semis.

Lac du Bonnet to honor Miss Centennial Manitoba
The Lac du Bonnet community plans a January 30 tribute for Miss Centennial Manitoba Darlene Meyer who was crowned in 1970 after a province wide contest. The Lac du Bonnet Chamber of Commerce organized the event with area clubs and the public invited. Proceeds will go to Miss Meyer who travels for Manitoba Centennial duties and attendances include a Manitoba Day football game in British Columbia. Tickets available at the door.

Lac du Bonnet Ladies Bonspiel Begins Friday
Twenty eight rinks will compete in the Lac du Bonnet Ladies Bonspiel this weekend. Defending champion Gladys Milhousen of Winnipeg will not attend. Manitoba champion Genda Buhr of Elmwood Curling Club leads a strong field including teams from Pinawa Pine Falls and Lac du Bonnet with Elsie Howle skipping a rink and Lil Kaprony in charge of the Oak River squad. A 6 00 p m smoker will be held Saturday at Memorial Hall.

The 1671 inaugural council swore in Wilcox and Mike Kabaluk and set appointments. Mike Kabaluk became Deputy Mayor and Public Works Chairman, A J Apsit led Fire Protection, Steve Tobak Finance, Lyle Wilcox Health and Welfare, Victor David Public Works and Utilities foreman, Gus Thor office clerk, Baldur Holm secretary treasurer.

1971 Licence Plates and Farm Vehicle Definitions
1971 New Look licence plates now issued with updated fees based on load weight for grosse hicles on trailers and 2.50 for farm trailers. To qualify for a farm plate, an applicant must spend at least one fifth of the last year in farming operations or be engaged in those operations in the coming year. An amendment defines Farmers as persons or entities involved in crop, livestock, poultry, dairy, feed lot, apiary activities, or related farming operations to a significant degree.

Mobile Drivers Test Schedule Changes in Northeastern Manitoba
The mobile testing unit, supervised by Mr. C D Cameron of Winnipeg, revises the Northeastern Manitoba schedule. Pickups and tests move between Pinawa Beausejour Whitemouth Pine Falls Lac du Bonnet and other towns on specified Mondays and Tuesdays from January 11 to February 16.

Inspector John Surowlee issued 24 permits totaling 285,700 dollars for Jan ae heen village projects. Twelve new dwellings were built and one was moved in. Five private garages and three additions or repairs completed.
