In a vigorous Throne Speech debate, Gildas Molgat lambasted the government’s three-year record citing haste and procrastination. He warned against immediate labour-law shifts and urged a House committee to study labor legislation. Russell Paulley offered a milder critique, urging action over study and blasting federal patterns in boards and commissions.

Seed Oats and Barley Can Be Sold Direct to Plants in Manitoba

Manitoba permits direct purchase of commercial quality oats and barley seed by seed cleaning plants and distributors. Seed offered must be inspected by a Federal Plant Products Division grader, with sales through farmers not required to go via the Wheat Board. The policy lasts until July 31 and aims to ease seed shortages caused by drought by channeling surplus oats and barley into seed markets.
