Waterline to Valley study started in Manitoba
Manitoba advances an outline study to assess a 4 million dollar water system for southern Pembina triangle. The Whitemouth Ladies Curling Bonspiel over February 9 and 10 crowned the Rennie foursome skipped by Mrs E Shindler as first prize in event one. Second event went to Mrs Shirley Cousins whose rink defeated Mrs Ruth Malkoske. Second prize in event one went to the Whitemouth rink skipped by Mrs Fingas, with third prize earned by Mrs Martha Molinski who beat Mrs Malkoske. Consolation prize went to Mrs Lena Bencharski's rink.

North Eastern Bonspiel Opens With Four-Day Schedule
The Springfield Leader notes the North Eastern Manitoba bonspiel runs Friday to Sunday February 22 to 24 with 32 rinks competing for the Springfield Leader Trophy. Four draws daily at Great Falls on Friday and Saturday, Sunday games at Lac du Bonnet, optional single games per rink, and a Friday evening club smoker in Lac du Bonnet.

Bamboo Princess Operetta staged at Bissett Community Hall
A stage operetta The Bamboo Princess was presented by the CGLT of Bissett United church in the Community Hall on Monday February 11 under the direction of Mrs Martha Kregeris with Mrs Helga Arnson as accompanist. The dramatic work set before the Chinese Republic unfolds at the Castle of the Baron Tatsien with Act one Banquet hall and Act two in the castle at dusk. Seventeen girls filled principal roles along with a chorus of robbers, dancing girls and the Emperor's Guard.

Village of Lac du Bonnet Council sets March 7 business court
Lac du Bonnet council fixed a March 7 1957 business assessment Court of Revision at 730 pm. Some assessments rose 20 to 75 and 80 percent while others were reduced. The fire truck was restricted to village fires except for the Memorial Centre and properties of local fire brigade members. Restroom upkeep at the bus depot ends February 28. Pte A Houston of Fine Fall and Pte W A Reder of Ayndail, both with 23 Central Ordnance Depot at Camp Shilo Man, help their unit win the Cambridge Challenge Bowl for the third time. The bowl stays in Prairie Command for the fourth straight year after the 1953 54 COD victories and 1955 Provost Corps win. Major General W J Megill presented the trophy on a Camp Shilo parade on Friday afternoon, Feb 8. Commanding officer is Major J L Cumberford of Drumheller Alta. The 12 inch high 15 inch diameter sterling bowl dates to 1907 and is awarded to the unit with the highest total score on annual classification practices above 80 percent of posted strength.

Omer Lavoie long-time Lac du Bonnet resident and former municipality Reeve died Tuesday February 19 at Selkirk General Hospital after a short illness. He came to the district in 1910, farmed and did bush work, retired in 1948, served as Reeve 1942 to 1945, and as Ward 2 councillor earlier. Survived by widow Mary, six sons Edward Paul Alcide Ephrem Eugene Wilfred, four daughters G Fournier Bert Gille F Champagne Olive, funeral arrangements pending.
