Pointe du Bois and Brown Community Event Highlights

The Pointe du Bois Brown community hall hosted a large turnout on December 8 with Winnipeg Fancy Roller Skating Club performances led by Tom White. The show featured comedians and a “horse” routine, followed by mingling, dancing, and impromptu skating attempts. Visitors toured local power plants on Sunday and shared meals at Pointe du Bois Residence and Slave Falls Staff House. Reverend E K Bissell led confirmations at St John Lac du Bonnet with Bishop Lofthouse. Mary Aitken of AF. (WD) visited Pointe du Bois last week.

Community Notes from Winnipeg Meeting and Local Skating News

Alderman J Forkin of the Labor Progressive Party spoke at the Community Hall on Tuesday evening December 11 with Mrs H B Williams as chairman. Mr and Mrs J Friedette and family reside in the district. son Arthur attends Pointe du Bois school. The Curling Club plans to begin play on Monday December 17 with a larger membership and rink ice near completion. The Queen Elizabeth liner brought Miss Aitken home to Vancouver after two and a half years overseas service. The home of Mr and Mrs S S Square is noted among local addresses.

Newlyweds Arthur Clement Visit From Notre Dame Des Lourdes

Grand-daughter Mrs. Leon Wittevrongel and husband visited the Clement family after their marriage in Notre Dame des Lourdes. They will reside in Treherne with Arthur Clement’s Windsor, Ontario brother Ernest also visiting. Odile St Pierre’s card party netted over $80 for the Christmas Tree fund. Visitation weekenders included Rev J A D McDougall and several Clement relatives. Leandre Clement hospitalization disappoints relatives who rushed to Winnipeg to greet him. Choirs rehearse Christmas hymns for Midnight Mass.

Winnipeg curling bonspiel closes with tight finals

The novelty bonspiel ended December 12 with Hobson defeating Thomson 10 9 for the first prize and Oddleifson beating Paulson 8 7 for the consolation. Rinks listed include Hobson skip A Hobson and Oddleifson skip A Oddleifson. Red Cross lunch raised 56 and club donation 19. Winter schedule begins December 17 and Mrs. Oddleifson’s mother Mrs. S A Anderson of Glenboro died suddenly Thursday.
