Centennial Fashion Show by R. B. Russell Vocational School

In 1971 Winnipeg’s R. B. Russell Vocational School showcased its centennial fashion show with forty student models from the Tailoring and Fashion Design department touring Manitoba. The Pine Falls performance featured sportswear casual wear and eveningwear, with designs all created at the school. Mr. S Wujec led the show with Miss Diane Behman as commentator, highlighting stage artistry and a finale modelled by Wujec in a top coat.

Changes in Apprentice Training in Electrical Trade

Labor Minister Russell Paulley announced an amendment to the Apprenticeship Act regulating apprentice to journeyman ratios. The new rule allows one apprentice per two journeymen, granting one apprentice for each working journeyman, with two additional journeymen required for each extra apprentice.

Powerview Collegiate Holds Oratorical Contest

Powerview Collegiate held an oratorical contest on Thursday December 2 with fourteen finalists from grades seven to twelve. Two divisions named Senior for grades ten to twelve and Junior for seven to nine produced four prizewinners including Sandra Legall Lorraine Papineau Susan Musak and Daniel Bouvier. Judges were Mrs Warren Miss Sinclair Mr Palamer and Mr Bogaski with Mr Laroche as evening chairman.

Pinawa Strike Settled After Wage Deal And Class Review

About 30 members of Local 254, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, on strike since September 20, reached a settlement with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd at the Pinawa nuclear research station. A two year contract provides 30 cents hourly raise retroactive to April 1, 1971, plus 32 cents on April 1, 1972, with improved medical and hospital benefits. A special review committee will decide job classifications, with a union member and management representative plus a chairman, to be set up by February 15. Workers, currently Tradesmen 2, sought upgrade to Tradesmen 1. they returned to work Friday.

Snow Storm Bus Policy Sets Steps for Division

Special procedures are needed during heavy snow and icy roads. The Transportation Supervisor will consult Trustees in each area to decide on bus operations. The Supervisor will inform the Assistant Superintendent which districts run buses and initiate a driver phone system. The Assistant Superintendent will notify principals and Winnipeg radio stations.
