A hectic social week features Arlene Manchester returning from a West Coast trip, Winnipeg and Regina visitors staying with local families, engagements announced for Kay Lestakre and Alec Opyc, and multiple trips to Kenora, Ignace, and Montreal. The piano of summer travel plays on as families host relatives from Winnipeg, Brantford, Morris, and Chicago, plus local work on the Victoria Beach wharf project with a $48,765 contract awarded.
Whitemouth posts welcome Allan Reid Holmgren born July 24 to F and Mrs Holmgren of Langford B C. Neighbors share visits and stories as Jarnman and Dorothy of Winnipeg vacation with Fred Anderson. Anniversary wishes go to Joe and the Holmgren family and to the Hill household. Community events include W A meeting, a large auction, and plans for a new curling rink with siding in place as locals work to finish the first class facility.
Mrs R F Nash of Red Lake visited Lac du Bonnet to spend two weeks with her parents Mr and Mrs James Ritchie. Joyce Sparman returns home from Winnipeg for a two week holiday with her parents. Congratulations to Lorraine Shewfelt for grade XII honors and Blythe Reid for honors at United College. A new cement sidewalk to the community hall improves access for events. Mrs Robertson of B C spends a month with her brother Jim Marshall.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Connor who recently moved to the community praise Whitemouth as a charming place. Connor is a veteran of World Wars I and II. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Aitkenhead Sr. and family from West Kildonan Winnipeg visited Sunday. the Aitkenheads farmed for many years before moving to the city.
Winnipeg’s civic holiday weekend swelled with visitors and friends as locals planned events. The Athletic Association prepares for hockey season with rink reconstruction and spectator shelter addition.
