Ingun Behrendt wins a Volkswagen in the Bug Chasers contest sponsored by Kimberly Clark. Entrants submitted a Kleenex label and a Listerine label to qualify. Behrendt plans to sell the car rather than keep it and hopes to drive it.
Agassiz Horticultural Society announces its second annual Flower Show to be held in Lac du Bonnet with entries in cakes pies bread crafts and flowers. Show rules outline entry fees seven rules and penalties with a focus on display quality and containment.
The Lac du Bonnet Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Monday July 27 course on credit control and consumer relations led by Leo Greg of Wylimark Survey Ltd. It aimed to align local practices with Manitoba Consumer Protection bureau rules requiring written records of all credit transactions and introduced a new credit granting system to protect retailers and customers. The session energized area business men who see delinquency issues as a shared challenge and called for future courses to improve credit procedures and consumer behavior understanding.
Judy Sherstone of Powerview was crowned Pine Falls Centennial Queen at the Queen Pageant held July 31. The event featured candidates from Fort Alexander and Pine Falls, talent acts, piano, French and English songs, and a gala ball planned for August 1 at the Legion Hall with her three princesses.
The Sanatorium Board of Manitoba offers free chest x rays to residents 16 and older in Lac du Bonnet villages and rural municipalities on August 10 11 and in Whitemouth on August 17 18. The drive aims to detect tuberculosis early and also uncover other chest diseases with capacity to screen 125 people per hour. Transport help is available for seniors by dialing Mrs Hardy 345 2988 before noon on August 10 and 11.
The Nor west e Canoe Brigade visited Lac du Bonnet on Wednesday July 29. Rain interrupted activities after a demonstration and a race followed by a tug of war. A group of 35 canoists were en route to Lower Fort Garry and Winnipeg from Grand Place, near the shores of a lake just south of the U S border.
