Cesium extraction advances boost MPD power plans
Continued from Page 1, a collaboration with Canadian government and private research firms claims an economical cesium extraction from pollucite ore, with a patent granted. The U S Bureau of Mines reports a new cesium ore concentration method lowering metal costs. High purity cesium sells at 375 dollars per pound. MPD demonstrations attract global interest as a potential source of inexpensive, compact electricity, possibly powering space ships and large facilities. The cesium helium MPD principle uses a gas loop with minimal moving parts, heated helium and cesium electrons to generate current in a strong magnetic field.
