The Lac du Bonnet area backs the new arena as residents donate generously to functions and fundraisers. The Lac du Bonnet Lakers Ski Club notably provided support, donating $500 toward the arena for 1971 and sponsoring a dance at toboggan races, helping keep the club and arena projects afloat.
The Pinawa Ladies Curling Club elected Joan Lidfors as president and Zona Dmytrin as first vice president for 1971 72 with Bev Ayres as second vice president Gail Shkolny as secretary and MLCA delegate Val Paulson as treasurer Denise Muzychka as social convenor Wanda Molnar as prizes Ann Smith and Arlene Boivin as ice and draws Judy Danbert as kitchen convenor Past President is Sheila Martino A pot luck supper accompanied the meeting prizes were awarded for the 1970 71 season and a pin was given to the outgoing president The Phil Longmore rink Ruth Dobbin Zona Dmytrin Carol Wayne won the Pinawa Pharmacy award Denise Muzychka Fran Booth Shirley Seward and Joan Lidfors the Hudson Bay Trophy Ann Smith Pats Ramsay Isobel Acres and Marion Mayman won the Cambridge Dairy Trophy.
Mr. G Stanley Howell announces the appointment of George Anderson of Pointe du Bois as Census Commissioner for District No 9. The district covers Lac du Bonnet to Bissett and west to Lake Winnipeg, including unorganized areas and Indian Reserves. Anderson recruits census representatives to canvas the area starting June 1.
Abitibi Paper Company Ltd reports a $1,000,000 net loss for the quarter ended March 31, 1971, versus a $2,274,000 profit a year earlier. Net sales total $68,818,000, down from $72,808,000. board products sales similar, newsprint lower. Depreciation provision up slightly. President T. J. Bell expects profitability in all remaining quarters.
