Increased irrigation urged to tap Manitoba vegetable markets
Manitoba studies note irrigation growth tied to rising markets for vegetables and specialty crops. In 1961 Manitoba irrigated 5000 acres mainly for market gardens drawing from Red and Assiniboine rivers. Prospective sites include Portage la Prairie Carberry Pembina Triangle and river bottoms with crops from alfalfa to tomatoes.
