A new Small Bore Rifle Club was formed at Beausjour and opened for membership at the initial meeting. Neil Holmes will serve as instructor to the boys.
A christening held on Sunday March 27 named infant Coleen Gail to Mr. and Mrs. L Stebbe Rev H Moertelmeyer officiated. Guests included Rev and Mrs H Moertelmeyer and several relatives.
The wedding of the daughter of Mr and Mrs E S Gold of Pine Falls to Philip Henley of Lac du Bonnet took place at the United Church manse in Pine Falls on April 2. Mrs George Gold served as matron of honor and Jock Goodall was best man. The couple left for Lac du Bonnet for a wedding dinner then planned to spend time in Winnipeg before returning to Pine Falls to reside.

A Beausejour Lent observance featured visiting DP priests from Poland and Germany. Fr Didlicki, a former Polish army chaplain and WWII internee, will be posted to St Boniface. Also present were Fr Golus of Cooks Creek Fr Pardyka of Dominion City and Dr Stanley Orsulik of Tolstoy with sermons outlining wartime hardship and faith.
Daniel Kabaluk of Lac du Bonnet was not fined $200 under the Fire Preventions Act as claimed. Roy Biedler, also of Lac du Bonnet, faced the $200 fine at the fire incident.
A cocker spaniel puppy owned by Dr. H. M. McDiarmid of Beausejour won three second place ribbons at the Cocker Spaniel Specialty club dog show held Saturday at the Army and Navy hall on Young Street in Winnipeg. Officials noted unusually large entries indicating strong local interest in dog events.
Whitemouth Reeve Thomas Harrison cautioned ratepayers at a council meeting against excessive demands on councillors due to limited public works funds. He warned snow plowing costs would reduce summer road budgets and noted many taxpayers were not paying arrears. Warrant payments were approved for several individuals and organizations including Whitemouth school and local school districts.
A local farmer and auctioneer B J Gerle of Ladywood joins the field for the CCF nomination ahead of the Springfield convention at Beausejour on April 9. He cites past Saskatchewan CCF membership and support for Premier T C Douglas. Other probable candidates include Reeve Fred Smallen, ex-Reeve Walter Larson, and Mayor J Paulley.
Beausejour Hospital District officials offer a ten dollar prize for the new hospital name. Rules require the submission from a student resident within the district. Entries must reach secretary treasurer L. J. Pulfer in Beausejour by May 31, 1949.
The Pine Falls branch of the Canadian Red Cross met March 31 at 8 15 p m in the Card room of the Manitou Lodge. Presiding was Don Reid president. Officers elected for the year include E Leuchuk president first vice president Mrs T Tanner second vice president Mrs George Dawson secretary treasurer Neil Lyons. Executive committee D Reid M Bosma B Wood Mrs D Brewster Mrs M Brown N Walton. The group approved appointing six canvassers from active organizations and to report names to the new president before the April 3 meeting at the Manitou Lodge.
Beausejour Lions aim to stage a legitimate bout card benefiting the Winnipeg Home for the Blind and the Beausejour Memorial Fund. E Zastra the Canadian light heavyweight champion may fight a USA or Eastern Canada challenger with Waldy in position to challenge for wider fame.
The Pine Falls Horticultural Society held its annual meeting in the Chateau hall on March 30 at 8 p.m. Officers and divisional directors were elected with R. Hayes as honorary president and E. J. Kahle as president. Guest speaker N. C. Mackay urged multiple seasonal exhibitions throughout the growing year.
The piece recounts Peter the robin living with Mrs. G. Van toever in Great Falls since last June after his nest was destroyed. Peter, fed hourly and cared for after a cat attack, remains shy with visitors but cheerful, chirping at breakfast, enjoying baths, and deriving joy from a radio and Mrs. Van toever’s company. Paddy left for the south. Peter stays on.
