With the basesloaded, Rosie Cota hti a come backer to the pitcher and was thrown outat first as Farmer crossed the plate. Two outs later, Christine SedilioHied out to center field, sending W il liamson in and tied the game. Corina Alvidrez forced out tosecond base to end the threat.Montebello then scored singe runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings,lead over Shafter.final at-bats for the locals proved to be fruitful as the never-say-die Shaftcrites lit up the scoreboard with five runs to seal the win.Scoring runs in the last inning wereCandie Givens, Rosie Cota, ChristieBorba, Naomie Gutierrez, and Sedil-lo, who was running for Alvidrez. Gutierrez’ slide arorss the plate bowled over the Montebello catcher,and proved to be the winning run as time ran out on Montebello.After the game, the team was treated to a visiti to Knott’s BerryFarm, where all enjoyed themselves. After the fun evening ended, the team retired th ther hotel rooms and wokeup early to prepare for an 11 a.m.Sunday game.Downey 17, Shafter 2Downey was the opposition forShafter as the Southern Californiateam defeated the fatigued locals 17-2. Mental errors, as well as physicalerrors plagued Shafter throughout thegame before the game was called fiveinnings.After the game, the team went for pizza before returning to Shafter.Also playing in the tournament were Rebecca Givens, Rachelle Griffith, Amber Griffith, Vanessa Plaza, Becky Chewning, and Jamie Howard.The girls, their parents, friends and relatives held two fundraising activities to cover expenses for the Cer-ritos trip. The barbecue dinner and car wash provide to be very successful thanks to all involved.Coaches Givens and Alvid z,along with assistant coaches Steve and Randy Griffith, wish to thank all who donated time, money, and food during their fundraising efforts, and the parents and friends at the tournament who cheered the team.Harvest CrewHarvest Crew, a music and dramateam from Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan., will present a concert at Mennonite Brethren Churchon September 16,1990 at f:00 p.m.The group performs traditional andcontemporary Christian* musical selections interspersed with dramaticpresentations.
