We could have someone to present (as our new head football coach) to the school board (on Jan. 24). But it could be longer. There is no shoo-in at this point.Sterling was forced to look for a new head coach after Herb Minyard was reassigned at the end of the 2010 football season.in JanuaryMinyard compiled a 22-45 record in seven years,including a 2-8 mark thisseason.Minyard was unavailable for comment.“Herb is helping me some, and is performing other duties as assigned,” Gooden said of Minyard, who guided the Rangers to the Class 5A state playoffs in 2008. “He is kind of acatch-all for us right now.There have been rumors that Sterling assistant head coach Mike Washburn, whois currently the acting head coach, is one of thefavorites for the job. Gooden would not confirm the reports.“I wouldn't want to comment on that,” Gooden said. “We gave received in- and out-of-state applicants. We have received a lot of calls.
