ClearPanthers Takeing 'A' MeetBy BUDDY PERRYRegister SporiswriterGLEN ROGERS ~ The Clear Fork Panthers gave coach Bill Montgomery • a Successful ending to his coaching career at the Colcord school by capturing Wyoming Class A Track Meet here Thursday.In order to win, the Panthers had to overcome a stellar one-man performance By Glen Rogers’ Ken Price, who finished the evening with 16 points. Price, who was a first-team selection on the honorary all-State basketball team this past season, won first place in the 100-yard dash, broad jump, and 220-yard run. He also ran a leg on the Owls’ 440-yard relay team.Strong relay teams proved the deciding factor in the outcome of the first annual event. Clear Fork dominated this part of the meet, taking first place in the 440, 880, and mile relays.Mike Toney, who recently won top honors in the Raleigh County League mile run, again won his specialty with a time of four _ minutes, 35 seconds. Toney finished second in the Regional Meet last Saturday at Van Meter Stadium, and will participate in the State Meet tonight in Charleston.In what may have been the deciding event, the Panthers’ Kerry Herron edged Glen Rogers’ Bobby Peck in the high jump. Peck, who had cleared 5 feet 9 inches in a practice jump, slipped on his final try at 5’4” and was eliminated.The Owls stayed close in the scoring by virtue of strong field efforts. Price took the broad jump with a leap of 1.8 feet, seven inches. Peck the shot put (3.9’ 20”). and Peck and junior Pete Tolliver finished 2-3 in the high jump.Herndon individuals who took firsts were Marty Jennings and Mike Mills.
