TENNIS SHORTSBy Mel KesslerThe turnout of players for the 12th Annual Junior Tennis Tour-1 nament In Fort Walton Beach last weekend was large enough to! keep the tournament actve for three days, interrupted only by ! rain late Saturday afternoon. Applause to Charlie Yates as tour-! nament director for meeting scheduled play. !The winners of the various divisions could not be reported! earlier. Hero are the finalists minus score (because of space! limitation). Singles Boys’ play; 18 and under, captured by our! own Charles Strickland over Bob Ballard (Tallahassee); 16 and, under won by Giles Toole (Tallahassee) over our Ronnie Maher i (Ronnie has come a long way this year); 14 and under title! gained by Don Hoseh (Jacksonville) over Richard Barrett (Mobile); and the 12 and under finalists were Jim Welnacker and! Mark Tenhundfeld (both from Mobile), victory going to Jim.-Singles Girls' play: 18 and under, Joanne Graf (Tallahassee) ■ defeated Karen Poggiloi (Panama City) (Graf also received the! Pepsl-Cola Sportsmanship Award); 16 and under, Cappte Clarki (Lookout Mt, Tenn.) gained the division title over Emily Waugh ‘ (Tallahassee), and local Teri Burnett toppled second seed Katie; Grafton (Pensacola) for the 12 and under title. !Doubles Boys’ play: our Jeff Williams paired with Ballard to; defeat the local Strickland brothers in a hard fought finals i match; 16 and under crown went to Warren Rogers (Tal)a--hassee) and G. Toole over Maher and Pat Harris (Tallahassee); ' 14 and under went to the team of Hosch and Barrett, while Billy: Sears and Thad Hughes (both from Ponte Vedra Beach) took the j 12 and under crown from local Jeff White and Mark MacNeil I (Gulf Breeze). Doubles Girls’ play: 18 and under was captured, by Chris Ridley and Jenny MeKeown (both from Panama City), over E. Waugh and J. Graf; and Burnett with Grafton defeated-Tenley Toole (Tallahassee) and Cathy MacNeil (Gulf Breeze) for' the 14 and under title. These last winners paired up again to defeat Toole and Cathy Lee (Tallahassee) for the 12 and undercrown.
