Skier turns passion into dreamEDMONTON (CP) - World champion water skier Joel McClintock has turned a boyhood passion into an adult occupation.The Mississauga, Ont., native is the over-all men's world water skiing champion and has been coaching fulltime for the last five years.“I ski every day, McClintock, 20, said in an interview after winning theHirsch Roofers put together a 17-run game, while holding O.K. He was fifth over-all in the world championships in 1977 in Milan, Italy, won two years later in Toronto and is to defend his title in September in London. Skiers from more than 30 countries will be represented.He said he began skiing at an early age because his family ran a ski school in Ontario.“My dad used to carry me around in his arms when I was about three and my older brother, Jim, was four. Then I started, like mom and dad, skiing for fun on weekends.“I started ski jumping when I was five. Each year, I just did it more and more.By the time he was 10, McClintock was competinig in tournaments. At 14, he was training with the national team as an alternate, and now he is the open men's world record holder in trick and slalom skiing, with 7,330 points.McClintock will be in Alberta until Friday to train members of the provincial team.“There are three or four skiing with us, he said. “We start at seven in the morning and go to about five in the afternoon.
