FAMILIES FIGHT.Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Niles and Mr. and Mrs. “Shine” Reed Had Fistic Encounter.Jerry Niles and Fred (Shine) Reed appearod in the police court this morning and were arraigned before Magistrate Bentley on the chargeB of cruelty to animals and assault and battery, respectively. From all that can he learned the trouble arose from a neighborhood quarrel, Reed charging Mr. and Mrs. Niles with cruelty to a dog owned by him, the warrant being sworn out on Saturday. Sunday morning, it is alleged, a member of the Niles family called a pet dog belonging to Mrs. Reed to their home and after getting it upon the back porch began abusing it. Mi's. Reed attempted to interfere and an argument between the two women resulted, their bus* j bands appearing upon the scene a moment afterward and a free-for-all fight ensued. Reed is something of a pugilist and' it is said that he soon had his opponent badly beaten up.Jerry Niles gives a different version of the atfair. He says he was attacked unawares by Reed, who jumped on his back. They fell to the ground and fought back and fourth, and Niles says he was not getting the worst of the contest until “Shine” called for Mrs. Reed to help him. Niles claims that Mrs. Reed then appeared on the scene and grabbed Mrs. Niles by the hair, and then, at “Shine's” urgent pleadings, she clubbed Niles with a broom handle. He also says he knows nothing about any of Reed's dogs being mistreated by himself or his wife.■ ■ -
