Lady Colonels beat the Rams, lose to MustangsBy Nick BarnardAmber Anderson led the LadyColonels in scoring, rebounding andsteals in a 36-15 spanking of the Gar-ces Lady Ramblers last week.With only 19 seconds expired,Anderson put Shafter on the boardwith a free throw.Then Becky Chewning assistedLisa Ortiz for a basket. Later,Chewning assisted Anderson for 2.Anderson scored again andChewning scored to lead 9-0 beforeGarces got on the board.Shafter led 9-2 after the firstquarter.Anderson scored 4 and Chewning and Guinta Lyons each scored to put Shafter ahead 17-6 by the end of the first half.Kristen Farmer grabbed a rebound and scored the Colonels first points of the third period.Ortiz scored another basket*as Shafter led 21-12 to begin the fourth. Anderson hit for 4 more to put it away for the Colonels.Anderson led with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Chewning helped Anderson lead in points by setting her up with three of her team-leading four assists. Ortiz added 8 points and Lyons added sixrebounds.Shafter and StockdaleAgainst the Mustangs, the Lady Colonels didn't look as sharp, losing31-17.Ortiz made a rebound and scored for Shafter’s only points of the first period.Stockdale expanded their 3-2 lead to 7-2 before Beth Zacharv scored.wThen the Mustangs scored 4 more before Anderson collected an offensive rebound and scored.Shafter was dominated bv Stock-dale in the first half, yet only trailed 13-6.Chewning twisted her ankle with : 12 left in the first half.According to Coach Kenny Allen, “This gives her two bad ankles, and she probably won't play againstTaft. ’ ’Zachary scored 3 and Farmer 2 as Shafter stayed with Stockdale 18-11 before the Mustangs scored two free throws to end the third quarter.Ortiz, Deedra Cobb and Monica Espericueta all scored in the fourth, but the Mustangs pulled away.Zachary led with 5 points and three steals, Anderson led with seven rebounds and Castellon had three assists. Ortiz added 4 points.
