«. VOIE WESTERN MANMAtnbBBTSOM OF MICHIGAN ONAJLL-A30KRICAN.Five Western Players on Second T**m—Chapman for Leader.■Walter Eckersall. Chicago Tribune, Las selected an All-American football team. His comment and teams follow:Picking an All-American football team this season is a much easier task than in former years. Despite the large number of elevens to beconsidered, the complicated offensive formations used by the various teams, and the hundred and one defensive stvies used by coaches all over the United States, the writer Las been able to select 11 men from this vast array of contestants who etnd heads and shoulders above therest of the field. Before going into detail m regard to these honorary selections, it is necessary to say a few words about Capt. Brlckley of the victorious Harvard eleven, who underwent an op-ertion for appendicitis early in theseason. This affliction kept him out of all the important games, aklio lie got into the Vale struggle long enough to kick a goal after a touchdown. If Brickley had been in the game all season there would be no doubt as to his being placed on this eelection. He was a member of the All-American teams in 1912 an(T 1913, and it is with regret that he cannot be honored this year.Three Harvard Men Honored.Despite the fact that Harvard had an evenly balanced team, only three Crimson, warriors are placed on the honorary first eleven, because there were players on other teams who, if they bad had the same support, would have been shining lights. One western player has been awarded a berth on the first eleven and five westerners have been placed on the second team. The men selected from the west have performed above the average, and their stellar work is worthy of the highest commendation. Too much attention has been given eastern players in the past, and it is with an honest and impartial endeavor that an attempt is made by the writer for the first time to select two All-American teams.First team™. In 116 games he scored 86 runs, made 13$ hits, including 19 doubles, 10 triples, and 15 four-base swats. His record includes also, 10 sacrifice hits and 35 stolen bases. His batting average for the season was .306.Boyle looks on him os a comer. He says Baum is a fast man in the field as well as a heavy hitter. He has bad enough experience to make him a valuable man from the start of the season.Evidently Boyle has formed a valuable alliance with the Cadillac club up In Michigan. Baum is the third roan he lias secured recently from this city. The other two were Eggleston and Swiek, a catcher and second saeker. Boyle claims both to be very-good men.
