ALEX WRITES FINISTO GREAT WORK*By A! Demarcc(Former Pilcher Neir York Giants)It looks like the baseball career of big “Alec,” my old side kick at Philadelphia in 1915 and 1916, is about over. Many disparaging remarks have been made about thisgreat pitcher during the last few years. Many people have claimed he did not take proper care of himself and his habits of training were not all they should have been. These same people forget that Alexander lasted ten years longer than the average major league pitcher who takes perfect care.of himself. I do not know what the moral in this is, but those are the facts. He pitched three years longer in the major league than Christy Mathewson,I understand that William Wrig-ley, president of the Chicago Cubs, once let Alexander write him out a ?1,000,000 insurance policy, with the proviso that Alex would stay on the wagon. The policy was canceled later. But alt this has nothing whatever to do with, the factthat Grover Cleveland Alexander was a great pitcher and a great fellow. Here’s luck, old boy. I'm for you..
