Wakefeld boosts underground workforce at Noonday mine with 65 workers, 18 of them new. ore value improves with depth under Benedum and Stuart Tros, payoff over $1000 per car. Over 300 sacks sorted in days. superintendent J H Stewart aims for a carload daily next week. The Soonday mine shows strong ore and leads Slocan shipper records.
Ore shipments for the week total 80 tons with 20 tons from the Tamarue mine near Slocan City as the season opens. Renewed activity around Slocan City suggests more cars will be sent before the season ends. From Silverton the Nounday mine delivered three carloads on Friday, with another car on the way. Slocan shipments list 40 tons awaiting documentation.
Reports describe activity at Lardeau and Red Mountain mines including the Emily Edith Company seeking Certificates of Improvements, the A.B. claim development under F. L. Byron, and Noonday mine ore shipments. A.B. mine development, Willa and Redsourtain prospects, and rising freight activity show a busy mining district with strong ore values and underground pay.
An appeal notes eleven local bandsmen available for a band and two or three able to lead. It urges funding for instruments with a small contribution to avoid relying on outside groups. Silverton, premier town of Slocan Lake, is the only one not backing the effort.
The Wakeheld mine restarts operations under ground as six more miners join a crew under contract by B Kneebone. Seven additional men were secured, bringing total workers to twelve underground, all paid the union wage of 3.40 dollars per day. Outside workers add to the workforce at Wakefe'd.
The Wakefield Mines seek fifty miners at three dollars a day while manager Patterson says he can hire up to 120 as soon as workers accept the wage. He threatens to shut the mine for a year if miners refuse. The underground force would not grow until the dispute ends. Six more miners were reportedly put underground.
Jokes aside this fragment notes a 100 foot crosscut on the A E at New Denver and shifts to shipping updates. The Wakefield moves on a regume ship ping. Snipers are hired at 3 60 a day while weekly shipments from Slocan Lake point to Nelson and Trail list tonnages for New Denver Tamarac and Slocan City with a total of about 80 tons.
