Mining Men From the East Inspect Silverton Properties

A party of Montreal mining men registered at the Selkirk hotel includes F T Beigne L J Beigne W Strachans Bernard McDonald and W H Jeffreys with Percy Dickenson of Dickenson Felt Slocan City. They plan examinations of the L H wine on Red Mountain and the Surprise on Four Mile and recently toured the Noonday mine. The Queen Friction claim shows a vertical vein with rich mineral, suggesting potential pay ore. the site near the lake shore allows direct transfer to CP Railway steamers.

Shipments Report From Lake Mines This Week

One hundred forty tons total arm shipments from the Lake last week. The Enterprise Mine at Ten Mile sent out 80 tons from Enterprise Landing, a well developed property positioned for large steady shipments when the line restarts. Friday's output was 60 tons from the Nounday mine at Silverton, the sole active shipper there, continuing through the lockout and earning profits for owners while others shut down amid political sympathy.

Miners Imported From Sudbury Join Strikers at Ymir

The Newton District Miners Association imported eleven Sudbury miners on a six month contract to the Ymir mine. After less than a week all but two joined the strike. The association offered to hire 500 Sudbury miners if possible. Ontario reputational limits noted. Sudbury miners aware of a dispute between mine managers and BC workers deterring arrivals. Expects more men to arrive on Tuesday.

Marion prospect bonded by David King for Toronto buyers

The Marion Silver Mountain prospect, bonded by David King for Toronto investors, is owned by A. McInnis, Alex Sproat, C. J. Matino, and Geo Alexander. Development began last summer with four ore carloads shipped. King will control the property and four men are currently employed awaiting further work.

Noonday Mine described near Silverton in Slocan district

The Noonday mine near Silverton sits one mile from town at about 800 feet above the lake on the Galena Farm Flats adjoining the Galena Mines Group. J M Benedum and partners bought a $55,000 bond, explored a tunnel, and opened a ledge 6 to 8 feet wide with pay streaks from 18 inches to 5 feet. The ore is rich, carrying silver, zinc, copper, and native silver, with shipments of 449 tons of clean ore already sent and substantial concentrating ore on the dump. Electric improvements, a wagon road, and mine buildings accompany active operations employing about 40 miners. The article also notes other local mining activity and regional industry updates.

B C Workman notes a large influx of Chinese and Japanese visitors landing in Victoria from the eight fifty one and thirty eight arrivals. He warns that continued immigration could lead visitors to describe Victoria as a city of whites quarters and suggest a segregated viewing of sights.
