Old Timer Robert Covington Dies Suddenly in Camp
Robert Covington of Slocan City died suddenly at his Lemon Creek camp last Tuesday morning while on assessment work with Thomas Benton for Oscar White. Covington, 35, collapsed in bed after a brief illness and died in Benton’s arms. A rescue posse retrieved the body. funeral services drew many locals from Slocan City, Silverton, and nearby areas. He leaves a wife and infant daughter, two brothers, and many friends.

Drownings on Slocan Lake Increase with Hutchison Death
Richard Hutchison, 25, of Petit Rocher New Brunswick, drowned on Slocan Lake during a freight up run near Silverton. The Sloean towed the Sandon as Hutchison fell between the hulls while leaping decks and, despite a nearby life belt and boat, sank before rescue could reach him. Recovery seems unlikely as the lake is slow to yield bodies.
