Harvest Thanksgiving Services Held
A harvest Thanksgiving service took place at Christ Church on Sunday morning with good attendance. The church was adorned by grain vegetables and flowers arranged by Girls' Guild members and Mrs R C Matthews along with WA allies. A large harvest loaf sat on the altar and the choir led familiar hymns as the rector delivered an impressionistic sermon on Thanksgiving. Under German rationing, Germans reportedly receive shaving soap quarterly and laundry soap monthly.

Athenia survivors return home to Manitoba family reunion
Mrs Hay Gillespie and two sons Hay Jr and Jimmy survived the Athenia torpedoing on Sept 3. They described hours in lifeboats, rescue by the Swedish yacht Southern Cross, and the harrowing float to safety. The family arrived in Winnipeg and were welcomed by relatives and Russell neighbors.

Fifteen members present as minutes and correspondence showed activity on Main Street surfacing and repairs, a short course in agriculture, and headlight adjustments during the Safety Lane event. The projects committee favored a new tourist camp in Russell with likely progress next year. A lengthy discussion ended where it began as the meeting adjourned at 11 05 pm.
