Public auction planned for October 18 1924 in Rossburn Village to recover arrears of taxes and costs on numerous parcels described by lot block plan and quarter section details. The notice lists properties across sections 39 19 24 and 31 19 24 West 1 with various coordinates and measurements. Also includes temperance rally notes and local community notices from Rossburn and surrounding areas.
The four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs E Goodings of Angusville died Friday in Birtle Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.
The regular service will be held at Trinity Church next Sunday at 3.00 pm. Rev Dr Langfelt of Emdonton Alta will conduct and preach. It is hoped a large audience attends.
The Girls Club of Russell Union Church met at Mrs. Chas. Cameron's home. The financial report showed about 450 raised, with 200 paid on church debt and 190.09 to missions. A $300 goal for next year was set. Plans were made for the fall bazaar on Saturday, December 6. Elected officers include Hon. Pres. Mrs. F. C. Middleton, President Miss Hazel Callin, Vice President Miss M. Keith, Secretary Miss Sacha Angus, Treasurer Miss Eva Matheson.
Choir practice Thursday at 3 30 p.m. Holy Communion and sermon 11 a.m. next Sunday the fourteenth after Trinity and festival of St Matthew Apostle Evangelist and Martyr. Sunday school 12 15 and Evansong 7 p.m. Rev Dr Langfelt in charge of all services. Rector administers Holy Communion in Binscarth parish. Junior Girls Auxiliary meets Saturday 20th at 2 p.m. at Rectory then trip to Mrs John Brown for working meeting.
The Povster WS holds its regular meeting at Mrs McLennan home on September 24 urging all members to attend due to important business. Nurses Teulon of Vancouver and McLennan of Winnipeg are on holidays at Shellmouth and Inglis. Notidy Combs for these with babbed hair at Park's.
TOGO Dr. G. P. Baker of Duncan British Columbia arrived in town on Monday and will be visiting for several weeks. The coast should agree with him as he seems well. Mrs. McPherson of Tiverton Ontario with her two daughters recently hosted by Mrs. McKinnon’s brothers Hugh Malcolm and Charles McKinnon left by auto on Sunday for Russell. They planned to continue to Vancouver Victoria and Seattle after a brief stay.
A Sunday baptismal service dedicated Robdina Setton Mather Andrew Kuwart Mather Douglas William Russell John Lewis Morrison. The pastor urged parents to model Christian living at home, church, school, and in the Jesus way. A rally day service Sunday at 11 features Toronto program Our Neighbors on the King's Highway with Good Samaritan dramatization and talk Who is my Neighbor. Funds go to Toronto departments and English west Mission Sunday Schools.
Mrs. 8S W Cuthbert of Winnipeg visits Principal Bond and Mrs Bond. Miss Leila Matheson returns to Welwyn Sask to teach primary grades. Miss McGregor speaks on home mission work. A girls auxiliary forms with officers Johnstone Bond and Clegg. Rebekah Lodge to hold anniversary services. Ralph Innis markets radios. Duck hunting down. threshing season begins amid steady activity. Rev Patterson from Brandon visits.
Mrs Williams and family return from visit to Mrs G Bagnall of Marchwell. The Harvest Thanksgiving service at the Presbyterian church drew a full house with Mr Robb leading and the Bavelaw choir assisting. Mr Robb preaches his farewell sermon next Sunday the 21st.
Monday saw J. L. McLeod and August Leifer start threshing. Park's advertised items include polishing cloths for Silverware at 25c and Snappy Bar Pins at Ti. each. Gasoline priced at 33c at local stations on Saturday. An old timers dance is planned at Silver Beach Friday evening. News notes report hail damage southeast of town, a visit by Nurse Thom from Victoria, and radio sales campaigns by N. R. Park. F. W. Dudley will be in Winnipeg and Russell Unit president L. C. Boulton attended the Dominion Convention. Smekie Bros. Ltd. installed a new plate glass window after vandalism. Open season for duck shooting began with no large bags reported. Traffic safety concerns noted for cars with single lights. Crop estimates released for western provinces show wheat and oats figures. Local hockey club efforts urged as winter approaches. Harvasts delayed by unsettled weather but expected to progress. Clarence Darrow noted in Chicago trial coverage. Reverend F. C. Aleton slated to speak on belief in God at Union Church. A minor accident near Asessip resulted in minor injuries. Rural Municipality of Russell grading completed on the road from Harrowby hill to the boundary. further work planned on Boundary road. Ed Wellman led the grading efforts.
The Russell School reports top high school grades last week led by Ruth Swain in grade XI May McMurray in grade X and Reggie Muskett in grade IX as standout students.
Neby given that the Rural Municipality of Shellmouth will hold a regular meeting on October 4 1924 at Dropmore Manitoba to pass a by law for opening and establishing a public road across parts of NW quarter Section 16 and SW quarter Section 15 Township 22 Range 28 West of the principal Meridian plan filed by William A Ducker dated September 29 1921 deposited No 1622 Neepawa Land Titles Office.
