Rent increase guideline set for 2003
Consumer and Corporate Affairs Minister Scott Smith announced the 2003 rent increase guideline at one percent, effective January 1 2003. The guideline aims to keep rents affordable while covering landlords costs. Manitoba law requires three months notice, and increases generally occur once per year. Exceptions include higher rent units, personal care homes, rehabilitated units, and new buildings under 15 years. Tenants may object to increases, and landlords may seek larger raises with cost justification.
