Canada’s naturalization law ties wives to husbands
Under Canada’s new naturalization act effective January 1, a Canadian woman who marries a foreigner takes the husband’s nationality. The Ottawa measure aligns with Imperial Parliament law, mirroring the same principle that a wife assumes her spouse’s nationality and relies on him or his country for protection and support. The Canadian law follows the Imperial Act on this matter.
