Silverton merchant and postmaster Everett H. Cochrane died after a major operation. He was 49. Funeral at Christ Church Russell Thursday at 2:30 pm with interment in Russell Cemetery.

Greyhound announces revised Turkey Trail winter schedule
Greyhound issues new afternoon timetable for the No. 45 corridor between Winnipeg and Russell. Beginning yesterday Wednesday buses are suspended until further notice. On all other days arrivals from the east shift to 2:10 with a 4:30 return departure, instead of 2:30 and 4:00 previously.

Special Acreage Payments Set to Start Next Week
Canadian Agriculture Minister Douglas S Hath em announced the start of special acreage payments for Western grain from a $42 million appropriation. Payments, based on Wheat Board permits for the crop year, will be issued to eligible producers. Cheques begin being issued within the week of September 11, with funds reaching farmers as soon as possible. The rate is one dollar per cultivated acre up to 200 acres, including all permit-listed cultivated lands except uncultivated and natural pasture.

Air Cadets Begin Training Next Tuesday
Air Cadet Squadron 677 will commence its training schedule on Tuesday evening September 13 at 7 30 p m in Memorial hall. All enrolled cadets are asked to attend. Boys turning 14 by January 31 1961 considering joining are invited to the first meeting for information. The squadron has built a top notch reputation and invites new boys to join in Royal Canadian Air Cadets activities.

UGG Plans Three Unit Addition to Lakehead Terminal
United Grain Growers Limited announces a three unit expansion at its Port Arthur terminal increasing capacity to 4 250 000 bushels. Carter Construction Company Limited of Toronto has the contract. Work will begin at the outshore end after site studies and weather permitting with substantial capacity ready by July 1961. Improved shipping facilities will allow the largest vessel on the St Lawrence Seaway to dock without repositioning.

Film Council Sets First Meeting Of Season
The Film Council invites interested parties to attend its first meeting of the season on Monday September 12 in the town council chambers. Don Aylard district representative of the National Film Organization will discuss film availability and use. The council introduces its program new film releases an expanded Hassell library and a new Dauphin Public Library film library service in cooperation with the Northern Film Federation and the National Film Board. Lawn Dye Substitutes For Water Limited Lawns
RK H Turley of Canada's agriculture department laboratory at Saanichton sprayed 750 square feet of lawn with one quart of dye mixed in 11 quarts of water to restore green color during water shortages. The dye improved color and growth resumed under favorable conditions, but experts say it is not a substitute for proper lawn care.
