Farmers plead for relief as 200 acres flood damage grows

The Keay family near Shellmouth Dam report about 200 acres of prime farmland ruined by the spring 1995 flood. Rick and Bill Keay work nightly to pump water from a 20 foot gully back to the Assiniboine River at a cost of about $50 per hour. Sand and gravel cover the soil where crops once grew, requiring removal before reclamation can begin. Government aid and action remain sought as the disaster area expands.
