Rescue survivors recount peril on life raft voyage
Mrs. Gillespie and another Canadian woman helped row a crowded lifeboat for eight hours after the ceiling collapsed in the third class dining room. The City of Flint sailors shared clothes and aided survivors as a Swedish sailor pulled a swimmer from a half full boat. The party was rescued by the Southern Cross, leading to a Halifax harbor salute and reunion in Canada many decades later.
