Heavy frost across Southern Manitoba and border towns in Saskatchewan damaged.Canola flax and green cereals hit hardest with 50 percent or more grain swathed in many areas. Estimates suggest up to 500000 tonnes of grain worth 75 to 100 million dollars could be lost, with lighter yields and lower grades lowering farm incomes.

Russell Chamber hears reports on brochure and Beef and Bailey
The Russell and District Chamber of Commerce held a luncheon on August 25 at the Russell Inn. Secretary Ad Mather read and adopted the previous June minutes. President Doug Macissac reviewed Welcome Wagon and brochure progress, noting the brochure nearing completion and Trade and Commerce magazine featuring Russell. Beef and Barley efforts showed no progress though entertainment is booked and pamphlets printed. tickets for the Ronnie Hawkins Show and Cabaret are on sale at Ken's Color TV. The meeting adjourned at 12:45 with next gathering set for September 29 at the Chicken Corral.
