Inglis School Board Discusses Pilot Project and Bus Rates

The Inglis school board debated a pilot project for small schools to teach LOGO using four computers, pending Education Department approval. They also discussed published bus rates and held motions on kiln installation, furniture sales, and delaying pay deductions. The meeting adjourned with plans for finance reviews and a future session on October 25.

Russell council reviews town water leaks and future needs

At a October 14 1962 meeting mayor and one councillor were absent. A survey by Search and Supplies found leaks at Augusta Street Main Street and other spots but concluded the water system overall is in good shape. The council discussed leaks and potential fixes, approved building additions for several residents, discussed buying land, and accepted highway drainage and railway crossing approvals. They plan to advertise in Parkland Travel Guide and attend a Brandon planning district seminar.

CRTC to Hold Public Hearings in November 1982

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission schedules a public hearing starting November 23 1982 at the Hull Conference Centre to review Cancom and Norcom applications for national satellite services and uplink offerings. Interventions must arrive by November 3 1982 with details of support opposition or modifications. Also notes Lt Robert W Brosart from Allan Saskatchewan joined the Russell Detachment October 1 1982.

Canada Observes 1982 School Bus Safety Week

Canadian students observe School Bus Safety Week October 17 to 23 1982 with a push for public involvement. The Canada Safety Council urges enforcement of no passing laws during the week and calls on drivers and school bus operators to promote defensive driving and vigilance. Posters feature Elmer the Safety Elephant urging motorists to watches for the Big Yellow school bus.

Ward 4 challenge in Pelly Trail School Division election

Ward 4 sees challenger Jeanette Moran against incumbent Leonard Derkach as voting day approaches on Wednesday October 27 at Major Pratt School from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Derkach first won his seat in the previous school board elections while Ward 2 returns Joan Clement by acclamation.

Russell Rural Municipality Considers Water Runway Blockage

The October meeting notes that Walter Michalchuk reports a water runway blockage on private land threatening spring flooding. Council seeks guidance from the Water Resource Board on possible actions. Also approved were the Roy Whitmers property tax adjustment and a Salvation Army donation. The next meeting is November 9 at 10:00 a.m.
