Doctor’s family crisis tests Russell hospital staffing
In September Dr James Hannibal rushed home to South Africa after word his father was gravely ill. He returned late in the month as the hospital faced staffing gaps, with locums arranged by the Health Authority and two Birtle doctors stepping in to maintain emergency and clinic services. His wife Dr Elize Barnard paused maternity leave to help, and Dr Bedard will cover the clinic three days weekly until Hannibal’s return on October 25.
